Our Story
This initiative began with Ebele Ijomoni, whose outreach work shed light on the challenges faced by Black, Asian, and Ethnic minority service users with language barriers during their birthing journeys. Driven to create change, she partnered with Layla Da Silva, a Doula Practitioner and former MNVP at Whipps Hospital. Their shared vision gained the support of BHRUT Maternity, leading to funding for a pilot project. This project was developed in collaboration with Maria the Better Births Lead, Humaairah the Ethnic Empowerment Midwife, and senior management. As of December 2024, the pilot has successfully transitioned into a fully integrated service. Cradling Culture C.I.C. now offers dedicated support services aimed at ensuring healthier outcomes for service users.
